Around one-fifth of population in Thailand are living in the estuary of this river. In order to fulfill high water demand and handle with water pollution in this area, water quality management becomes necessary. In this study, characteristics of water quality in the estuary of the Chao Phraya River were analyzed to determine the effects of seawater intrusion and water pollution from its watershed. Water quality model was developed based on the finite-volume model to analyze advection and dispersion in the study area. It was found that salinity near the intake structure of water treatment system exceeded the salinity limit for water supply in 2010, 2013 and 2014, which indicated that impact of seawater intrusion became more serious. Dissolved oxygen decreased from upstream to downstream because of the increase in BOD. The accumulation of nutrients in the estuary was also confirmed. The developed model can effectively simulate salinity in the estuary of the Chao Phraya River. It will be developed for the pollution analysis in the future.抄録:The Chao Phraya River is an important water resources for Bangkok and its vicinity area.
