Experiments were carried out for flow regimes of HCFC123 and ammonia evaporating inside a horizontal, spirally grooved steel tube with the 12mm average inner diameter, and the transition qualities from separated/intermittent flow regime to annular flow regime were investigated. Experimental results were discussed based on the comparison results with the available correlations proposed by Taitel- Dukler(1976), Kattan et al.(1998) for a smooth tube and by Higashiiue et al.(2006) for a grooved tube. Using the Mori et al.’s(1999) correlation for wetted perimeters of flow boiling inside a smooth tube, a new correlation was proposed for transition quality to annular flow regime. This correlation agreed well with the experimental results for both HCFC123 and ammonia.
