The impact resistance of porcelain tableware is one of the important product performance. To evaluate the fracture type, the bowl type of alumina reinforced porcelain tablewares were broken by pendulum-type impact tester and the fracture surfaces were observed by the metallurgical microscope. In this work, Mist, Hackele, and Wallner line were observed on the fracture surface, and they suggested that the failure origin differed from the hitting point. The failure origin existed in the inside surface under the hitting point. The stress on the inside surface was tensile stress produced by deformation of bowl. It was concluded that the final fracture was mainly caused by the bending stresses, not by the contact stresses.
