In addition to the commonly used hospital information systems, many medical devices now also include ICT. This means that proper electric power supply and communication systems must be installed. Recently, problems have been reported in some facilities, notably in wireless communication systems, cabling, and the power supply. For wireless communication, most of the problems involve insufficient signal reach. With cables, major problems are from a lack of space in the ceiling or inside the walls through which the cables pass. These problems often occur because of a lack of information sharing between the construction and network management sections. As for the power supply, the power supply itself or the grounding (earth) can be the cause of a problem, many times because of inappropriate installation or insufficient maintenance. A common term used in clinical medicine is the “Medical Electronagnetic Environment”. In the past, only electromagnetic fields (EMF) used in mobile communication were focused on. Currently, more focus is being placed on noise caused by unintended EMF emissions from items such as LED lamps, power lines, and circuit boards that interferes with medical devices and wireless communication. It is important to maintain a safe “Medical Electromagnetic Environment” in hospitals. Hospital buildings have special features, different from those found in ordinary than office buildings. In this presentation, I will show examples of these problems and suggest possible ways to solve them.英語フィールド
