We selected a historic area in Japan as our study area which had traditional townscape left and can receive subsidy for repair and renovation of buildings from government, but which vacant houses were increasing by low birthrate and aging. We analyzed local habitants’ recognition on reuse of vacant houses in the area, and discussed its problem to build a system of better use and management of the vacant houses. We conducted a questionnaire about the vacant houses which existed in the area to their owners. As results, we were able to confirm basic situation of the vacant houses and wishes of the owners, and to obtain valuable data for utilization of the vacant houses for future of the area. In addition, we could also conduct a questionnaire to a NPO and persons who had moved to live into the area from the outside. Thus, we could discuss a system for reuse of the vacant houses from each viewpoint.抄録:This study focuses on vacant houses which become a social problem recently especially in local cities.
