The settlement holds a potentiality in both cultural and physical meanings, but this potentiality is hidden due to strong influences of urban development. The Bantik community has no ability to compensate the changes of the settlement or keep the potential. Rapid growth of population, influx of the influences into the settlement, and the orientation of urbanity that is showed by the public tend to increase the strength of the community's decision to leave the local cultural heritage. This study focuses on the Bantik settlement in Malalayang that have the potential of local cultural heritage. The purpose of this study is to analysis the spatial characteristics of the local neighborhood. Data were obtained from a series of field observations, the distribution of questionnaires and interviews. As a preliminary observation, we conducted to qualitative analysis of the potential and problems of the study area, using description of strength, weakness, opportunities, and constraints. As fundamental studies to establish culture space planning for the Bantik community, we conducted the following methods: Analysis of the development of culture heritage, analysis of movement of culture spaces, analysis of the settlement’s characteristics viewing from the cultural identity, and analysis of activities of the Bantik community related to the space of the culture heritage. The results are expected to provide an overview of the characteristics and their heritage culture space utilizations, and generate potential mainstays that can be developed as strategies to maintain the existence of local settlements.英語フィールド
