Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are promising devices that use bacteria as catalysts to oxidize organic matter and generate current. Because of their eminent merits of universality in various organic fuels, capability in treating wastewater, mild reaction conditions, and low cost, MFCs have attracted considerable interest in scientific research recently. We are investigating the MFC using mudflat from sea side, which is called “Mud battery” on our group. The mud battery can not only generate current but also reduce the BOD value in the mud. In the present study, an effect of external resistance on a power generation of mud battery was investigated.
