As spheroidal graphite cast iron has high strength as well as excellent workability and damping capacity, it has been widely used in automobile as well as in many other engineering applications. However, the damage initiation of the spheroidal graphite cast iron might depend not only on the graphite size but also on the distribution of the graphite nodules. The fatigue failures of this spheroidal graphite cast iron caused by cracks and micro-cracks have been investigated sequentially by AE technique. AE events during the initiation of cracks and micro-cracks have been characterized by comparing the microstructural images of the specimen. The result shows good acquisition performance in the evaluation process.英語フィールド
